Greenwood Academies Trust

The Greenwood Academies Trust (GAT) currently has 37 open academies educating approximately 16,000 pupils across seven local authority areas including Nottingham City, Nottinghamshire, Leicester City, Northamptonshire, Peterborough, Lincolnshire and Central Bedfordshire.

The Trust was formed in 2009 by the Governing Body of the outstanding Greenwood Dale School in Nottingham. Greenwood Dale was one of the first two schools in the country to be allowed to set up its own Foundation to sponsor Academies.

GAT is a ‘not for profit’ organisation. Any income received is spent for the benefit of our pupils. Support services for finance, ICT, procurement, human resources, catering, data, curriculum development, staff development, health and safety and extended opportunities are led by a Central Team operating across the Trust. The Central Team budget has a maximum annual cost of 5.5 per cent of the Trust’s budget which means that 94.5 per cent of the Trust’s budget goes directly to individual academies. We do not pay bonuses to our staff, nor do we provide company cars or free private healthcare. We do not pay our Trustees.

Local support for individual Academies is provided by Academy Advisory Councils, rather than governing bodies.

To enable every child within our academies to be the best they can be

To deliver its Mission, the Trust has agreed the following four strategic priorities:

Outcomes and Provision: For increasingly higher proportions of pupils to leave our academies well prepared for the next steps in their education across the whole of the Trust.

Developing Children and Young People: A wide range of experiences and enrichment which enhances their wider personal and cultural development to allow them compete in the future.

Leadership and Management: To ensure our structures, staffing, policies and procedures are accurate, efficient and understood by all parties. To ensure that these systems allow schools to be supported and to ensure the Trust Board and Executive Team are well informed of academy performance.

Developing the workforce: To identify and develop future leaders, retain the highest calibre individuals and make working as a leader within the Trust as attractive as possible.
