Fee, Fi, Fo, Fum!

A GIANT welcome back to the summer term!

What a busy week we have had! The first week back has been full of sunshine and fantastic learning opportunities. The children have come back very refreshed after the Easter break and have really impressed the staff with their eagerness to learn.

Our new theme this term is "Ground, Air, Water" which will see us learning a wide range of things. To start us off we have been using the story of Jack and the beanstalk. Some of the children are already familiar with the story, but everyone has really engaged in the story, especially the "Fee, Fi, Fo, Fum" part!! Our role play area has become the Giant's kitchen with some giant objects inside!

In literacy we have been comparing the characters of Jack and the giant. We have written words to describe each character. We have also been writing labels for the different things Jack saw/found when he climbed the beanstalk. We have also used masks to act out the story on our outdoor stage. Some children have been using instruments to explore different sounds which they can use to accompany a retelling of the story. Ivan suggested banging a woodblock for the giant's footsteps.

In maths we have been comparing the length of objects by finding things longer and shorter than a stick. We have also been using non-standard measures to measure anything and everything in sight!! You can see more photos of us measuring here.

To develop our fine motor control we have been mark making on large leaves. These have now been added to our beanstalk in the classroom!

We have also planted our very own beans. We are hoping that we too may grow a beanstalk to climb!! I wonder how tall they will grow?

We can't wait for next week to have more adventures and learn even more exciting things!
