Reading Buddy Fun!

After spending lots of time writing stories inspired by The Wolves in the Walls by Neil Gaiman, Year 5 shared their own stories with a reading buddy from Year 1.
As part of Year 5's literacy unit on Narratives with a familiar setting, we have focused on The Wolves in the Walls by Neil Gaiman. After retelling the story and doing lots of work on figurative language, Year 5 were ready to invent their own stories inspired by the book! There were lots of exciting ideas, Snakes in the Sink, Caterpillars in the Carpet, Buffalos in the Bath tub and even Tarantulas in the Toilet! The Year 1 class arrived with big smiles, eager to meet their reading buddy. The Year 5s did a great job in making them feel welcome and they began reading. Myself and Miss Ward were very impressed with the behaviour and thoroughly enjoyed seeing seeing all of the children interacting with one another. What a lovely end to a literacy unit, and a great purpose and motivation for writing! Super reading Year 1 and Year 5!
