This week children in Year 5 had the great privilege of meeting the Humanutopia team and working with some Year 10 pupils from CoPA.

First Mollie got to introduce the Humanutopia team and she managed to get the whole crowed clapping along. Showing that one small act can have a ripple effect on others.  This then led to a discussion about what Humanutopia means, putting people first.

The team- Stevie, Georgie and Bradley- told us all about their lives and why they work for Humanutopia. There were really inspirational, showing us that id doesn’t matter where you start, you can achieve anything you set your mind to. We also met the Year 10 heroes. They share their experiences of the program so far, allowing us to understand a different view.

Next we learnt about 5live and how five core values can help us make a big difference.

  1. Hope
  2. Confidence
  3. Happiness
  4. Relationships
  5. Employability

However, all these things need to be achieved in HARmony.  So we spent the day being honest to ourselves and others. We showed awareness of others thoughts and feelings, as well as our surroundings. While making sure we were always responsible for our actions.

Throughout the day we completed a range of tasks that helped us develop all of the above skills as well as effective communication. It was scary at first to try and talk to the Year 10’s. However, by the end of the day we felt like we had made some amazing new friends. Leaving the room, we felt empowered to make small changes.

Remember there is always a reason to dance… you just need to find it!
