On the 24th of May Bishop Creighton participated in the YDP 2018 World Cup, a football tournament attended by 16 different schools from across Peterborough.

BCA were given Argentina and headed to The Grange in their brand new, black football kits! In the group stages the team put up a brilliant fight, demonstrating, skill and teamwork. In the first game, despite it being an even match, their opponents scored in the last kick of the game, meaning a defeat of 2-1. With their heads held high, they moved onto the next game. This time the boys made sure they were communicating more efficiently and each player stayed in their position (for the most part). Goals from Tayyeb, Berak and Awat secured us a 3-0 win over our opponents.

With one game left to go in the group stages, the boys faced Portugal. After a superb performance, the game ended 9-0 to BCA, with Awat scoring a massive 6 goals! We had finished second in our group, which meant we were through to the cup!

Our first game, the quarter-final, was against Germany, the winners of Group 3! After 15 minutes with no goals, the game went to golden goal: three minutes to see which team will score! Again, the whistle blew without any goals being scored. This meant our fate would be decided by a penalty shoot-out! To begin with it was pretty even, but unfortunately Germany managed to scorene more than us!

Although this meant BCA were knocked out, we didn't go home empty handed! Awat was awarded the Golden Boot, a trophy for scoring the most goals in the tournament, for his 10 super goals! On top of this, Ben was awarded the trophy for the best keeper of the tournament, personally chosen by Luke Steele. What a fantastic day, we were all very proud to be purple!
