Core Learning Skills

Our Core Learning Skills curriculum is a research-based approach which ensures that every pupil develops the essential skills for learning and life. It intentionally and systematically develops pupils’ personal learning and life skills alongside subject learning and thus also supports ‘readiness’ for the next stage in their education. Learning Skills promote pupils’ ability to learn independently, which results in increased motivation, raised standards and accelerated progress.

Our Learning skills are taught in a spiral curriculum approach. Our themes are as follows:

Autumn 1 Learning with Others
Autumn 2 Developing Independence & Responsibility
Spring 1 Improving own Learning and Performance
Spring 2 Developing a Sense of Self Worth and Understanding of Self and Others
Summer 1 Thinking Skills
Summer 2 Speaking and listening
