Years 2 & 4 Join Forces!

Today year 4 have visited year 2 and served the role of master editors.

Hello and welcome to the final blog of the first half term! I can't believe how quickly the time has flown - already 1/6th of the way though the year!

I wanted to share with you today some of the work we've been doing in class. As you may know, we have spent the last three weeks reading the book "escape from Pompeii". This has been the centre of all of our literacy lessons, and it has all lead up to us writing our own version on the story!

We've have some fantastic work being produced but, more exciting than that, today we went to visit our year 2 class to share some of our brilliant work! Year 2 have also been hard at work writing their own stories, and so we paired up and shared our work. The year 2's shared their fresh, new ideas and the year 4's shared their knowledge and expertise. I think the most exciting thing we all learned from this experience was just how far year 4 have travelled since they were in year 2. Some of our students were a little sceptical going in - "what can we do to help them?" they asked. However, their animated discussions afterwards showed that they knew far more than they thought they did!

"I can't believe I caught all of those capital letters!" said one student, who had taken a fine tooth comb to a year 2's sentences.

"I helped put some inverted commas in the right place" said another. It was interesting to see how casually year 4 mentioned things that would have seemed impossible a few years ago!

I guess the overall theme of this blog is looking back on the year and realising how much you can accomplish without realising. I feel confident in saying every person in their class has made progress already this year, even if sometimes they don't feel like they have. A big congratulations to all of you, and I look forward to seeing you again next term!
