Norman Helmet DT Project!

As part of our Theme topic Year 5 have researched, designed, and created their very own Norman helmet! We began by researching the Normans and why they are important in British history. We looked at the sorts of clothes and armour they wore. We looked at lots of images of authentic Norman helmets as part of our design process, then it was time for, arguably the best part, the creating! Blowing 30 balloons up was a group effort! And the wallpaper paste can be best described as 'gloopy'! After layers and layers of papier-mache the helmets were left to dry. Ensuring their helmets were authentic, before painting we looked back at the images, then to make the helmets extra special we added details using tin foil and marker pens. Everyone enjoyed the creating process but were keen to explain what they would improve next time as part of the evaluation process! Year 5 displayed some great design and technology skills during this mini-project! Well done Year 5, great to see lots of effort!
